ABOUT BETHANY STEPPING STONES OF THOMASVILLE NC:
TODDLERS (1 to 3 years) Infants (6 weeks to 1 year)
While every baby is unique, they all share the common need for consistency and responsiveness in their caregiving. At Bethany Stepping Stones Christian Daycare , our infants control their own daily schedule based on their particular preferences and patterns.
The caring and nurturing teachers at our daycare center closely monitor each individual infant’s eating, sleeping and play patterns to determine the most appropriate and non-stressful daily schedule for your child. Between three and six months of age, most infants will start to establish a more consistent daily schedule that suits them best.
For infants who are six to twelve months, we aim to provide them with a smooth routine that balances active and quiet play to reduce stress and avoid drastic changes.
The teacher-to-child ratio in our infant rooms is 1:5.
Playtime Activities
Tummy time, supported sitting and free movement with access to bright, colorful and safe toys help to complete your infant’s day. Infants are also taken outside, as do children in all our programs except during extreme or unsafe weather conditions.
Sleep
Your infants will have their own crib. We follow Safe Sleep practices as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Our cribs do not have bumper pads and infants are always put on their backs to sleep. Sheets are washed daily.
TODDLERS (1 to 3 years)
As your baby celebrates their magical and memorable ‘first birthday,’it marks the beginning of a two-year journey through some of the more memorable developmental changes of their young lives. While the phrase ‘terrible twos’ is often thrown around to describe this age, this is a joyful period as you and your child embark on an exciting ride filled with new words, new mobility, new personality and yes, even new attitudes.
Bethany’s teachers will monitor your toddler’s language, movement, independence, toilet training and impulse control changes on a daily basis.
Our teachers always aim to work alongside parents to support each child’s cognitive, emotional and physical development using consistent daily routines that comfort your child while supporting their unique needs and interests.
Our toddler-specific toys and activities encourage children to test, explore and master new skills and concepts. Bethany offers a separate toddler room staff by teachers chosen specifically for their expertise and skill working with toddler-age children. This classroom and its furnishings were designed around this age group’s high energy levels and the challenges of sharing materials and space while maintaining safety and comfort. Toddlers will go outside every day, weather permitting, for playground time and other planned outdoor activities.
Toilet training is an ongoing part of the toddler curriculum as your child learns about body parts and bodily functions in context throughout the day. Children who are interested in using the toilet usually will do so at will, with helpful assistance and gentle reminders from caregivers. While the average age for toilet training is around three years, it is very specific to each child and not usually an issue if your child starts earlier or later. We will work closely with parents to note signs of readiness and develop routines that provide consistency between home and school.
Our teacher-to-child ratio for toddlers is a minimum of 1:6.
